I131 Wholebody Thyroid Metastases Study
Indications:
- Evaluation for functioning thyroid cancer, either recurrent in the thyroid bed or metastases.
Examination Time:
- Initially: 30 minutes for radiopharmaceutical administration
- Imaging @ 48 hours: 1 to 1.5 hours for whole body scan
Patient Preparation:
- Patient must be off thyroid hormones
- Thyroxin ( T-4) for at least 4 weeks
- Triiodothyronine ( T-3) for at least 10 days
- Synthroid for at least 6 weeks
- Patient must not have had intravenous or intrathecal iodinated contrast material (IVP, CT, Myelogram, and Angiogram for at least 3 weeks
- Patient should be NPO for 4 hrs prior to administration and 1 hour afterwards
Radiopharmaceutical
- I-131 as sodium iodide (capsule only)
- 5.0 mCi
- Oral Administration
Patient Position
- Patient supine
- Whole body (may exclude below the knees)
