Massage Therapy Services at the Southern Ohio Medical Center LIFE Centers have expanded. Renovated space at all three facilities provides services by appointment for a variety of massage therapies. At the SOMC LIFE Center in Portsmouth, the former whirlpool area between the men’s and women’s locker rooms adjacent to the main fitness floor has been renovated. Spaces at both the Lucasville and Wheelersburg SOMC LIFE Centers are also being renovated to accommodate massage therapy. Both a male and female massage therapist are available and clients can call the Portsmouth LIFE Center to schedule an appointment.

Therapies offered include neuromuscular massage, reflexology, Swedish and hot stone massage. Neuromuscular massage therapy is used when a muscle is strained from injury or overuse in order to decrease pain, increase circulation and promote healing. Reflexology is the application of pressure to targeted areas of the hands and feet to relieve stress, reduce pain, improve circulation and promote healing. Swedish massage is a technique to reduce stress, promote relaxation, reduce pain and relieve muscle tension. Hot stone massage uses smooth, heated basalt stones which are placed on specific accupressure points to melt away knots, tension and stress.
