Local runners and community members are invited to compete in Southern Ohio Medical Center’s 31st annual Run For Your LIFE competition, which will take place Saturday, Aug. 30. The race will begin and end at the SOMC LIFE Center, 1202 18th St., Portsmouth.
Entrants may choose to participate in either a 5K or 10K run. Registration and packet pick-up begins at 7 a.m. the day of the event and both races will start at 8 a.m.
There is a $15 fee per entry and T-shirts will be given to the first 250 participants to register. Registration the day of the race will cost $20 and additional shirts may be purchased for $12.
This year’s route will take runners through the shady, tree-lined residential area that includes Kinney’s Lane, Grandview and Thomas avenues, Dorman, Sheridan and Orchard drives, Coles Boulevard, Shawnee and Micklethwaite roads and Greenlawn Cemetery. Massage therapists will be available for pre- and post-race services for $1 per minute.
Awards will be presented immediately after the race to the top three finishers of each age division. Awards also will be given to each male and female with the fastest time in each event; however, male and female recipients will not receive duplicate awards. All participants are eligible for door prizes.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the SOMC LIFE Center Wellness Programs.
