SOMC Honors Cancer Patients On Valentine’s Day
Feb. 15, 2006. Staff of the SOMC Cancer Center, 1121 Kinneys Lane, honored patients on Valentine’s Day with cookies, homemade cupcakes, punch, and some area businesses donated flowers for each patient receiving treatment. SOMC Hosts Preterm Birth Seminar
Feb. 13, 2006. Southern Ohio Medical Center welcomed staff members and guests for a professional seminar, "Preterm Birth: Implications for Prenatal Care," Feb. 8 on the Main Campus. The keynote speaker, Dr. Jay Iams, is professor and vice chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology within the College of Medicine and Public Health at The Ohio State University. Dr. Iams is widely recognized for his extensive research on the epidemiology, prediction and prevention of preterm birth. Also speaking was Hetty Walker, RNC, who has served as coordinator of the OSU Premature Birth Program and is a consultant for high risk patients. Show, Dr. Iams discusses preterm birth issues with the audience. The event was presented through a grant from the March of Dimes.
Thieken Sworn In
Feb. 13, 2006. Phyllis Thieken, RN, a nurse on staff in the Intensive Care Unit of Southern Ohio Medical Center, was recently commissioned as a nurse in the Army Reserve. A swearing-in ceremony was held Feb. 9 at SOMC. Present at the service, in addition to family, friends and co-workers, were (from left) Army medical recruiter Capt.
