Bradford Named Wound Healing Center Director
November 30, 2006 » Michael D. Bradford, RT, has been named program director of the SOMC Wound Healing Center, scheduled to open in December on the main campus of Southern Ohio Medical Center.
A respiratory therapist, Bradford is a graduate of the Academy of Health Sciences, San Antonio, TX. He has been a research investigative assistant for the US Army Research Institute of Infectious Disease in Frederick, MD, director of respiratory services at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio where he served as staff therapist and director of cardiopulmonary services for 18 years, and spent 12 years in Home Care and Home Healthcare. He came to SOMC from HCR-Manor care as administrator of home health services.
Bradford and his wife, Linda, live in the Hillsboro area and have a daughter, Kati. He is an active Hillsboro Rotary member and past president of the Highland County Chapter of the American Heart Association.
Ghanem Sleep Certified
November 22, 2006 » Ammar Ghanem, MD, a pulmonologist on staff at Southern Ohio Medical Center, has received his board certification in Sleep Medicine from the American Board of Sleep Medicine. Pulmonology is the branch of medicine addressing lung diseases. He is also board-certified in Pulmonary Medicine and Internal Medicine.
Dr. Ghanem received his medical degree from Damascus University Medical School. He completed his residency training at Damascus Ministry of Health and University Hospitals and Robert Packer Hospital. He completed a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at Marshall University.
Dr. Ghanem is available at Pulmonary Critical Care, Inc. (PCCI), Suite 108, Building C on the Main Campus of SOMC.
SOMC Security Receives New Weather Gear
November 7, 2006 » The Security Staff of Southern Ohio Medical Center has received new uniforms for inclement weather. Staff members will be wearing these during rain or other challenging weather conditions while on grounds, directing traffic or in other situations. The uniforms are bright pale green with reflective trim and the word SECURITY is written on the back of the jacket. The rain gear is intended to protect the officers from the elements and to make them more visible so they can safely assist everyone who comes to SOMC. Motorists, pedestrians and all visitors and employees to SOMC properties are encouraged to make a note of this official gear in the event they would need assistance. SOMC Officer Honored By Sheriff, Firefighters
November 3, 2006 » The Scioto County Sheriff’s Department and the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department recently honored Southern Ohio Medical Center Security Officer Mark Bloomfield for his help rescuing a family from their burning residence. Bloomfield was on his way home when he saw Deputy Kirk Jackson at the scene of a house fire and stopped to assist before the firefighters arrived. LIFE Center Presents Equipment To Firefighters
November 2, 2006 » The SOMC LIFE Center recently provided some used fitness equipment to the Portsmouth City Fire Department for the firefighters’ workout room. Shown with a Hammer Strength bench press station at the fire department are LIFE Center Facilities Manager Matt Romanello (left) being thanked by Firefighter Scott Osborne. In addition to the weight bench, the equipment included a used Precor EFX elliptical training unit.
Lewis Earns IDEAS Award
November 2, 2006 » Jules Lewis (left), unit clerk in the Intensive Care Unit of Southern Ohio Medical Center, was recently awarded the SOMC IDEAS Award for her work on the hospital’s policy of allowing fresh flowers and fruit in the rooms of patients who are immuno-compromised. Lewis, a pre-med biology student, has participated in research regarding the hazards of certain bacteria and germs present in flowers and fruit and presented the findings to SOMC’s Infection Control Committee. IDEAS (Ideas Developed by Employees at SOMC) is a program for employees to provide suggestions for improvements at the hospital.
