The Laboratory Services at Southern Ohio Medical Center recently passed an unannounced inspection from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). Inspectors visited the laboratories at the SOMC Main Campus, SOMC Anticoagulation Clinic, the SOMC Cancer Center and the SOMC Urgent Care Centers in Portsmouth and Wheelersburg.
Dr. Vincent Randaisi, the laboratory’s medical director, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellent services being provided. The SOMC lab is on of more than 7,000 CAP-accredited laboratories worldwide.
The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program began in the early 1960’s and is recognized the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.
“We participate in an onsite inspection every two years,” Bridgett Scott, director of SOMC Laboratory Services, said. “The onsite inspection is used to verify compliance, assess the overall quality of the lab and to identify deficiencies that can affect the quality of laboratory performance.”
The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program offers the most complete array of disciplines and testing procedures available in today’s laboratory. The program also accommodates all testing sites, ensuring consistent levels of service throughout institutions and health care systems.
“We are very proud and thankful for the employees and other departments that help laboratory services maintain high standards and give us the opportunity to provide excellent care for our patients and the community.” Scott added.
