Southern Ohio Medical Center will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the LIFE Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 at the Portsmouth facility, 1202 18th Street. The event is open to the public and free of cost.
“The SOMC LIFE Center opened in 1985 with the vision of creating a healthier community,” Gary Coovert, administrative director of the LIFE Center, said. “Since that time we have grown to three locations in Portsmouth, Wheelersburg and Lucasville serving more than 5,000 members.”
The 25th Anniversary event will feature an open house with facility tours, door prizes and giveaways. Free health screenings including blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, hearing and falls risk assessments will also be available. LIFE Ambulance will provide lunch from 12 to 4 p.m.
“As hospital based centers, we can offer our members access to basketball, swimming and a variety of equipment and classes, all in an environment that is staffed by degreed and certified professionals,” Coovert added. “We also offer comprehensive rehabilitation services.”
New members can save up to $50 on Oct. 14 by taking advantage of no enrollment fees during the celebration and existing members can earn a free month by referring a friend to join.
