SOMC, Portsmouth Dance to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

Support Breast Cancer

Southern Ohio Medical Center has teamed up with various businesses in Scioto County to create a breast cancer awareness video in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness month. The “ SOMC Pink Glove Dance” video will be released on YouTube on Oct. 15, National Mammography Day.

Based on the popular YouTube video, “The Pink Glove Dance” created by St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, Ore., SOMC decided to create a video to display the community’s involvement in bringing breast cancer awareness to the forefront.

The music video, set to Outkast’s “Hey Ya!” features area businesses and schools such as the Minford High School Volleyball Team, Portsmouth Public Library and the Vernon Township Fire Department.

“We wanted to do something fun and creative and bring our community together to share in the awareness of breast cancer,” said Shawn Jordan, administrative director of SOMC Community Relations, Friends Center and Volunteer Services. “We also wanted to recognize the survivors in our community, so we asked them to wear purple gloves during the video to represent the American Cancer Society’s symbol of survivorship.”

A link to the video will be made available on the SOMC website at www.somc.org and it will be posted on the SOMCPortsmouth YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/SOMCPortsmouth on Oct. 15.
