Emergency care at SOMC is available in two separate locations. The Main Campus Emergency Department offers emergency care 24 hours a day, with at least one physician experienced in emergency care on duty in the emergency area and specialty consultation available within 30 minutes by members of the medical staff. The Health Care Center, located on the South Campus, offers emergency care between the hours of 9:00 am and 9:00 pm, seven days a week with at least one physician on duty and specialty consultation available within 30 minutes by members of the medical staff with provisions for transfer to another facility when needed.

The Emergency Department is a 23-bed unit with telemetry available in 16 beds, serving patients of all ages. The department provides immediate emergency treatment and nursing care to the patients in their initial acute state of pre-admission hospital treatment. In this manner, the patients will be prepared to progress to another stage of nursing care in an area of the hospital or transfer to another facility or be discharged depending upon his/her injuries, disease, and his/her degree of illness or wellness.

The Health Care Center is a 14-bed unit with telemetry available in four beds, serving patients of all ages. Outpatient services include IV administration and blood administration. The staff is comprised of RNs, LPNs, Emergency Services Technicians, and Unit Clerks. The Director of Nursing for Emergency and Outpatient Services and Assistant Nurse Managers collaborate with the Medical Director for Emergency Services on a regular basis.
