Orthopedic Care Unit (3 North A)

The Orthopedic Care Unit, formerly known as 3 North A, at SOMC is a 30 bed medical/surgical unit responsible for the care of adolescent, adult and geriatric medical patients with a broad range of medical diagnoses and specializes in the care of the surgical orthopedic client post-operatively, during their inpatient stay.

The Orthopedic Care Unit employs professionally trained staff members comprised of 56.3 FTEs and utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach. This multidisciplinary team is comprised of physicians, nurses, nursing assistants/techs, social workers, patient relations, registered dieticians, therapists (occupational, speech, physical), and clerical staff. Our unit maintains a 1:5 nurse/patient ratio and encourages participation on unit based and organizational-wide teams to include staff in the decision making process for improvements in the areas of safety, quality, service, relationships, and performance.

Our goal is to provide the highest quality of care to all of our customers in a friendly, patient-centered manner and to make the post-surgical hospital stay as beneficial, informative, and comfortable as possible.
