SOMC earns “five stars” for nurse communication

Becker’s Hospital Review, a trade magazine covering the medical industry, recently awarded Southern Ohio Medical Center “five stars” for nurse communication.

The award was based on information provided by CMS’s Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Provides and Systems data. Nursing communication was determined based on survey results after patients were asked how clearly their nurses explained things, how carefully they listened to them, and whether they treated them with courtesy and respect. The data was collected between October 2023 and September 2024.

“This award is a testament to our nurses’ steadfast commitment to delivering the highest standard of patient care,” said Elvis Walters, SOMC Administrative Director of Nursing, Inpatient Services. “Effective patient communication is vital to building trust, and I am proud of our team for exemplifying this principle every day.”

Only 529 hospitals in the United States earned “five stars” for nurse communication.
