Southern Ohio Medical Center Highlights Innovative “Jiffy Knee” Replacement Option
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Southern Ohio Medical Center is bringing a new alternative to the traditional knee replacement to patients across the Tri-State region through the Jiffy Knee procedure, offered by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Joseph Leith.
During a recent appearance on WSAZ’s “First Look at Four,” Dr. Leith discussed how the Jiffy Knee technique is helping patients recover faster with less pain and less disruption to surrounding tissue compared to traditional knee replacement procedures.

“The goal is to help patients get back to their lives faster,” said Dr. Leith. “This procedure is designed to minimize trauma to the muscles and tendons around the knee.” Dr. Leith explained that the Jiffy Knee approach uses a muscle- and tendon-sparing technique that can improve mobility and reduce recovery time for qualified patients suffering from chronic knee pain or arthritis. “We’re seeing patients up and moving very quickly after surgery,” Dr. Leith said. “For many people, it can mean a smoother recovery experience and a faster return to normal activities.”
The procedure is now available through Southern Ohio Medical Center Orthopedic Associates, where Dr. Leith specializes in orthopedic surgery and joint replacement along with other SOMC orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Leith is board certified in orthopedic surgery and completed his medical education and residency training through The Ohio State University. He completed a fellowship in joint replacement at Joint Implant Surgeons in New Albany, Ohio.
Dr. Leith sees patients at the SOMC Wheelersburg Family Health Center and in Russell, Kentucky at the SOMC Family Practice & Specialty Associates.
