When their mother fell and broke her hip, sisters Lana Lowe and Lisa Schrock checked her into the Orthopedics Care Unit at Southern Ohio Medical Center. Here is their touching story of the extraordinary care their family received at SOMC:
“I would like to thank the nursing staff on the third floor orthopedics area. They have been not only efficient and competent, but kind and compassionate as well. My mother has a form of dementia and is unable to advocate for herself. I know it makes the staff’s job even more complicated. My mom doesn’t understand her pain or remember that she fell and broke her hip. They have been careful to talk to her and soothe her fears as they have cared for her. It means everything to us and our family to know that our mother is not just another patient to take vitals and meds to, but she is treated with kindness.
The worst night my mom had, Danette, on night shift spent much of her work shift in the room with us. She smiled and worked with my mom so gentle that I was surprised that she had such patience. It was a difficult night for all of us but still Danette kept her smile and cheerful attitude. I can’t remember all the names of the nurses, but they have all been the most accommodating and kind. I am impressed with the staff here at SOMC and I hope they will be properly recognized and commended for their excellent care. The dietary staff, physical therapists, and the housekeeping staff have been wonderful as well.
Dealing with illness is not something we planned for, but the employees of SOMC made our ordeal so much more painless and also pleasant. I would again like to give a big shout out to these amazing individuals who have lightened our burden and shared their gifts and talents with us so freely.
Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Lana Lowe”
