Southern Ohio Medical Center is able to create a high-level educational experience through a unique health care system. Trainees receive direct clinical instruction through attending physicians who work in a hospital system with some of the nation’s highest standards for quality. SOMC is a 216-bed hospital that includes a fully operational Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, and a dedicated obstetric floor. SOMC also runs state of the art surgical suites including GI and pulmonary suites. SOMC is a fully accredited chest pain center that includes suites dedicated to advanced vascular and open heart surgical procedures. In addition to these services, SOMC has been able to expand its primary care, family health, and specialty care services into the surrounding counties and their communities.
SOMC maintains a staff of more than 281 providers, many of whom are appointed faculty members of the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM). This relationship is made possible through the Clinical Education Network (CEN), an integrated medical education consortium with many affiliated hospitals statewide. SOMC has a strong, long-standing relationship with OU-HCOM, providing a high quality educational standard for our trainees, and we look forward to continuing this partnership for many years to come.
On behalf of the faculty of SOMC’s Medical Education Program, I welcome and invite you to explore the many opportunities available here at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
