For Students

Today you are being asked to make decisions that will affect the rest of your life. What will you do after high school? Where will you go? How will you pay for college? Will you be able to get a job after college? Will you be able to make enough money while doing something enjoyable and meaningful?

The answers to many of the questions that you are struggling with can be found in nursing. The nurses of Southern Ohio Medical Center invite you to learn more about the field of nursing. We believe that once you do, you will find that nursing degree can open many doors for you and provide a world of opportunities.

Talk to your guidance counselor

Now is the time to explore your options and to make plans for your future. Your guidance counselor can help you with information about nursing and about schools where you can receive education. Scholarships are available for students who want to pursue nursing and your guidance counselor can help you with these and other financial assistance programs.

Visit NSNA

The National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) provides information about nursing careers, how to apply to nursing school, what it's like to be a student, scholarships, student loans, nursing specialties, and direct links to nursing schools online. Talk to universities and college. Each school is slightly different in its programs and admission requirements. It's a good idea to talk to the schools' nursing program directors and to visit the school prior to applying. Many colleges also provide tuition assistance.

Contact SOMC

Many hospitals, like Southern Ohio Medical Center, have nursing recruiters who are happy to answer any questions that you may have about becoming a nurse and possible job opportunities once you are licensed. Many hospitals also have scholarship programs and internship programs, where you may "shadow" a nurse to see what nursing is all about.
