SOMC Awards Bid For Waverly Urgent CarePosted on July 4, 2011

Southern Ohio Medical Center is pleased to announce a partnership with D.K.M. Construction of Pike County to begin the construction of the new SOMC Urgent Care and Specialty Center in Waverly, Ohio, scheduled to open in 2012. SOMC Vice President of Support Services Ben Gill said, “As we move into the Waverly area, we have kept the importance of community at the forefront of all our decisions. We want to build strong relationships with the Pike County community and that includes keeping the work local, therefore D.K.M. construction was the right choice for us.” Five companies submitted bids for the 15,000 square foot project. The facility is expected to take one year to build, weather permitting. “We look forward to working closely with D.K.M construction as this project comes to fruition,” Justin Clark, administrative director of Plant Operations at SOMC, said. “I think this will be an excellent collaboration and a great opportunity for the community of Pike County.” SOMC plans to hire 20 to 30 full and part-time positions for the new Urgent Care Center, including but not limited to: nursing, registration, lab, X-ray techs and housekeeping. In addition to urgent care services, the facility will also offer a variety of rotating specialties such as cardiology, cancer, neurology, pulmonology and general surgery. “I’m excited for our organization to have a presence in Pike County and look forward to providing health care services to the community,” Elvis Walters, RN, nurse manager of the Waverly Urgent Care and Specialty Center, said. “We plan to offer local health screenings and presentations to engage with the community as we embark upon the construction phase of the project.”
