SOMC Scrip Sale Puts Nearly $34,000 Back in Local EconomyPosted on 11/04/2020
Every year, Southern Ohio Medical Center holds a “Scrip Sale” event that allows employees to purchase gift cards and have the amount payroll deducted over multiple pays. The event is a fundraiser for the SOMC Friends Center, but also generates a quick burst of commerce for the local economy.
The 2020 event resulted in nearly $34,000 in gift cards for local businesses. That amount includes $7,375 for the Scioto Ribber, $2,500 for Buffalo Wild Wings, $1,900 for AutoStylz as well as gift cards for 36 other local businesses.
“The Scrip Sale is great for employees because it gives them immediate access to hundreds, or even thousands of dollars in gift cards for the price of just dollars-per-pay,” Kelli Richardson, coordinator of the SOMC Friends Center said. “It’s also great for the local economy because it encourages people to dine at local restaurants and shop with local businesses.”
