Inpatient and outpatient programs and services are delivered through the work of more than 2,800 employees and a staff of more than 260 board-certified or board-eligible physicians and specialists. The operation of SOMC follows guidelines of The Joint Commission, the nation’s predominant standards-setting body in health care, and SOMC has received top honors from that organization for meeting standards.
Ambulatory Infusion Clinic
The Ambulatory Infusion Clinic is a 9 bed unit that is open 8am to 8pm every day of the year. The AIC provides non-emergent outpatient care for patients 14 years or older. Services that are included in the AIC are the administration of IV medication, blood products, and various other IV, IM and Sub Q medications, foley catheter insertions, ultrasound guided IV’s, Midlines, PICC lines and port maintenance and access care.
Patients who have had heart valve replacements, had complicated surgeries, blood clots, or heart beat irregularities may be asked to take Coumadin to help slow the blood clotting process. These medications, known as anticoagulants, are used to prevent major complications, such as vessel or valve obstruction, or strokes.
Patients diagnosed with abnormal heart rhythms may require management with medication. Medications used to treat these conditions are known as antiarrhythmics.

Home Health Services
SOMC Home Health Services is the first Home Care in Scioto County and the first hospital-based agency in the state of OH. Home Care Services include Skilled Nursing Care, Rehabilitation Therapies, Medical Social Services and Home Health Aides, Home Telehealth Monitoring and Palliative Care.
In August 2011, Southern Ohio Medical Center partnered with Apogee Physicians, one of the nation’s leading hospitalist groups. A hospitalist is a specialist in internal medicine who solely treats patients in the hospital around the clock. Uniquely, Apogee is completely owned and operated by physicians who understand the business of medicine inside and out.
Our associates are available to treat patients suffering from a variety of ailments, including infections and hepatitis. Social Work Services
The Social Work Department of SOMC provides services to inpatients, outpatients and employees. The department has an open referral policy, accepting referrals from physicians, hospital personnel, patients and families, outside agencies and others. Patients considered high risk for needs are evaluated for possible services.
Speech and Hearing Clinic
Speech/language pathology services are offered to pediatric through adult populations. SOMC Rehab Services provides comprehensive assessment and treatment of speech, language or swallowing disorders.

The Wound Healing Center provides advanced wound healing treatments and techniques for non-healing wounds.
