Stop Smoking.
- Smoking is the #1 cause of diseases, disabilities, & preventable deaths
- Any form of tobacco (cigarettes, chew, snuff) is harmful, it can cause several different types of cancers, and increase your risk for long-term health problems.
- Secondhand smoke is dangerous, too. It causes more than 7,300 lung cancer deaths among U.S. nonsmokers each year, nearly 34,000 premature deaths from heart disease each year in the United States among nonsmokers, and causes many respiratory issues in children, including increasing the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). - SOMC offers several Freedom From Smoking programs, free classes to help people stop smoking
Freedom from Smoking Adult Smoking Cessation Program
Freedom From Smoking® (American Lung Association) teaches proven techniques and offers personal support to help you quit for good. Behavior change is a process. By helping smokers develop a plan of action leading up to quit day and providing the support they need to remain smoke free, this program maximizes the chances of success. The in-person clinic option is delivered in a small group setting to give participants personalized attention and the support of their peers. The program consists of six sessions, meeting once a week for approximately 60-90 minutes. Due to grant funding by the Scioto Foundation, nicotine replacement therapies are available week-to-week based on attendance. Participants must be over the age of 18 years old to receive medications. Call 740.356.2552 for more information. We are willing to hold sessions in your place of business if so desired with a minimum of five participants.
