The Social Work Department of SOMC is staffed with Master prepared social workers licensed by the State of Ohio. Social Workers can be found working throughout SOMC in the following departments: Cancer Center, Emergency Department, Home Health Care, Hospice, and Inpatient Services. The department has an open referral policy, accepting referrals from physicians, hospital personnel, patients and families, outside agencies and others.
Social Workers roles include:
- Psychosocial evaluations
- Brief Counseling
- Discharge planning
- Advanced Care Planning
- Linkage to Community Resources
- Crisis Intervention
Social Workers are physically staffed within the hospital 7 days a week from 7:00 am – 2:00 am and then on-call 2:00 am – 7:00 am to respond to crisis or immediate needs of patients.
Social Work can be accessed by calling 740-356-8443, Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. If calling outside of these hours, please call the Emergency Department Social Worker(s) at 740-356-8519 and/or 740-356-6593.
