The SOMC Cancer Center offers comprehensive genetic risk assessment and testing for both cancer and cardiac conditions. The risk assessment, along with genetic testing, can help identify hereditary and genetic factors that may increase an individual’s risk. This information allows for appropriate next steps to significantly reduce the risk of certain cancers and inherited heart conditions.

Genetic services can also help identify family members who may benefit from screening, prevention, and additional risk-reduction strategies.

Genetic counseling is provided through a SOMC City of Hope Certified Genetic Risk Providers. Talk to your provider about a referral if you are interested in cancer- or cardiac-related genetic risk assessment and testing.

Why is Genetic Counseling Important?

Genetic Counseling and Testing help to identify those at an increased risk for both hereditary cancer and cardiac conditions. A Genetic Risk Assessment Provider evaluates your family history and talks about the risks of inherited diseases, as well as screening and management for those of increased risk.

At the SOMC Cancer Center, our Genetic Risk Assessment Providers are ready to provide genetic expertise and testing to help you and your family make informed medical decisions based on their own personal risk assessment. If you choose to pursue genetic testing, the testing will be coordinated through expert laboratory facilities.

Genetic Referrals

Referring A Patient

To make a referral for cardiac or cancer genetics, and you are within the SOMC network, please submit a referral through Meditech.

If you are outside the SOMC network, referrals can be made by sending a completed and signed Referral Form by email to referrals@somc.org or by fax to 740-356-7488.

Please encrypt email if sending from outside the SOMC network.
