Hearing is one of our most vital senses. Audiology is the branch of science that studies hearing, balance, and related disorders. An audiologist is a health-care professional specializing in identifying, diagnosing, treating and monitoring disorders of the auditory and vestibular system in pediatric and adult populations.
SOMC offers a full battery of audiological tests performed by a licensed audiologist. These tests are specific to the needs of the client. Our audiologist can evaluate hearing to diagnose the type and severity of hearing loss and determine appropriate follow up treatment. Some of these special test include conventional hearing tests, otoacoustic emission measurements (OAE, videoelectronystagmography VNG), central auditory processing tests, typmpanometry, and auditory brainstem response (ABR).
SOMC hearing services has assisted in developing and implementing the newborn hearing screening program that identifies hearing loss at birth. The audiologist will counsel family’s throughout the new diagnosis of hearing loss and provide the follow-up diagnostic and rehabilitation services required for the pediatric population.
SOMC also offers the latest in hearing aid technology including advanced digital hearing aids and assistive devices. We work with several hearing aid device companies so we can present our patients with a variety of options at the best cost. Our audiologist completes all testing and fitting to assure the appropriate hearing aid for the client’s type and severity of hearing loss. All hearing aids come with a 30 day trial period. We also provide follow up services, including minor and major repairs on many brands of hearing aids, and stock a variety of batteries.
